RESIDENT HORSES

mariahsummer2009.jpg

Mariah came to live at Forgotten Treasures in February of 2008. She is a super sweet horse with a lot of love yet to give. The vet and equine dentist estimate her to be in her early 30's. We treasure every minute we have with her here. She loves to be brushed and pampered and especially children enjoy her gentleness and patience. She loves it when we have open houses and fundraisers cause she gets spoiled with her favorite treats such as bananas, watermelon, carrots and apples. Please consider coming to visit her sometime soon so you too can see what an awesome horse she is.

10/1/10  She loved her banana's and carrots that were offered to her by supporters and friends at our open house.

PHANTOM

Phantom is a gorgeous and very personable Missouri Fox Trotter.  He is 20+ years old,  but don't let that fool you. He has a wonderful personality and is great in hand, he will do whatever is asked of him. Stands wonderfully for the farrier.  This is one head turner/heart breaker for sure. Phantom was accepted into our sactuary program on 2/4/12, see post below.

Fall 2011

2/4/12 update:

Dr. Wiles was here yesterday for over an hour evaluating what can be done for our boy. What Dr. Wiles determined was that the major problem with Phantom is  not the front left pastern with ringbone but both back hocks and stifles are so badly broken down he has little to no cartlidge left to support those joints anymore. Considering Phantom's age and breed he said this is not uncommon. Phantom also has a grade 4 heart murmur. Dr. Wiles has two treatment plans for Phantom, both being quite expensive, so I need to know what his supporters would like to do. As it stands right now Phantom has enough support to account for $95 a mo, which does not even come close to either of these long term treatment plans so he will need more angels to make this work.

Treatment plan#1

Adequan injections 500mg  $73 each injections, he would need 7 for the initial loading dose and then 1 each mo. there after.

Equioxx paste, this is the best thing out there right now as a daily pain medicine that will not upset the stomach or disrupt the digestive tract. $9.00 tube, he will need 1 tube a day.

Cosequin ASU powder for on top his feed daily.  $165.95 container, the first container will only last 42 days because of the loading dose and then after that it should last the full 80 days since it is just one scoop to maintain him.

Will all that being said this plan would run:  $511 for Adequan, $270 for Equioxx, and $165.95 for Cosequin. WOW......

Treatment Plan #2

Equioxx paste, this is the best thing out there right now as a daily pain medicine that will not upset the stomach or disrupt the digestive tract. $9.00 tube, he will need 1 tube a day.

Cosequin ASU powder for on top his feed daily.  $165.95 container, the first container will only last 42 days because of the loading dose and then after that it should last the full 80 days since it is just one scoop to maintain him.

This plan would run: $270 Equioxx paste and $165.95 Cosequin

Either way we go this is going to be costly to keep him comfortable and have any type of quality of life. Dr. Wiles said as long as Phantom can continue to get up he has a chance.

If we go with treatment plan #2, after using what support I already have for him I would still need more angels in the amount of $340 or if someone can find these exact products cheaper and they wanted to purchase them and have them shipped to FTER that would be another possibility. I guess what I am asking is what does everyone want to do here. Currently I still have him on the Cetyl-M(which is obviously not working any longer for him) and bute powder.  I cannot do this alone, the best I can offer is to take care of his teeth, wormers and farrier care out of my own pocket so all of the $95 can be used to keep him comfortable.

With all this being said my husband and I have decided that Phantom will now become a permanent sanctuary resident here at FTER. I honestly do not think anyone would want to take him on with all these issues so we would be happy to make this his permanent home for the rest of his days.

Please private email me or call, I need to make a decision ASAP for Phantom.

Thank you

Dixie and Dandee

Dixie-Dandee2.JPG

Dixie and Dandee arrived in July of 2009. Dixie(the darker one) was given to us from another rescue, she has a super personality and we love to show her off when we have fundraisers and events. Dandee(in the back) was heading to auction when we intercepted him and gave him a home here to share his days and adventures with Dixie and my son's goat, Princess. The three of them are inseperable and have bonded more than I could think possible. Dandee can be ridden by small children but mostly he just enjoys hanging out with his friends. They would love to greet you when you come to visit them here at Forgotten Treasures Equine Rescue.
